FRP bridge restores safe connection in Ramillies

As part of the renewal of the RAVeL L142 in Ramillies, the existing wooden cycle bridge near Rue de la Station is being replaced with a durable bridge for cyclists and pedestrians. The existing bridge was taken out of service approximately two years ago after the wooden deck structure began to deteriorate and fail. As a result, safe passage was no longer possible and users had to follow an alternative route in the area.

To restore the safety and continuity of this important cycling and pedestrian connection, Janson Bridging Belgium was commissioned to design, manufacture, deliver and install a new bridge made of glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP). The bridge is approximately 20 metres long and 5 metres wide and is equipped with a steel railing.

The use of GFRP provides a durable and future-proof solution. The material combines a low self-weight with excellent corrosion resistance and requires relatively little maintenance. This helps reduce the risk of future closures caused by maintenance work.

The new bridge restores safe access along the original route of the RAVeL L142 and provides cyclists and pedestrians with a reliable, comfortable and low-maintenance connection, designed to provide a long service life.
